The Gateway PGA headed to The Club at Old Hawthorne for 36 Holes on Monday, July 29. Josh O’Hearn (Golf Headquarters) earned his first tournament win as he was the only player who shot under par in both rounds for a score of 71 (-1) – 70 (-2) =141. The Senior and Super Senior Divisions played 18, allowing Jeff Whitfield (The Quarry) to take both trophies with a 66 (-6) score.
O’Hearn started his first round on the 18th hole, where he bogeyed. He locked in and added birdies on three, 10, 11, and 16 to finish the loop with a 71 (-1) score. Starting on the second hole in the second round, O’Hearn overcame a slow start by recording five birdies, including one on his last hole, to take the title by one stroke.
Whitfield ran away from the field, finishing five strokes ahead in both divisions. His best shot of the day came on the 482-yard par-5 15th hole, where the ball found the bottom of the cup for an eagle. He added birdies on four, five, eight, and 11 to finish at 66 (-6).
