Mr. Shogren “Shogie” Spent Several Decades As A Rules Official;
Played Golf On All Seven Continents

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – The Gateway Section announces the passing of Bob Shogren. Mr. Shogren (1936-2020) passed away this weekend, on March 20th. Our thoughts are with Mr. Shogren’s family at this time.

Mr. Shogren “Shogie” was a renowned rules official and a staple of the St. Louis golfing community. A Wisconsin native, “Shogie” enjoyed a life that included being able to golf on each of the seven continents.

Mr. Shogren turned golf into a thirty-year career in the ‘Rules of Golf.’ Concentrating in officiating, he worked with the Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association (MAGA), the PGA of America, Gateway PGA and St. Louis District GA, culminating with an invitation to serve on the ‘Rules Committee’ at the 2018 PGA Championship at his home club Bellerive CC.

He is survived by his stepdaughter Mindy, her husband Jeremy, granddaughter Rose and stepson Aaron; along with his brother Bill, his wife Jean and their family.

The Gateway PGA will announce more information as it becomes available. A celebration of Bob’s life will be announced at a later date.
