The Gateway PGA Section completed the regular season Stroke Play series at Franklin County Country Club on Monday, August 26. Ryan McClintock (Panther Creek Country Club) edged out Zach Potts (Fox Run Country Club) in a playoff after both shot 70 (-1). Michael Tucker (Bellerive Country Club) and Jeff Whitfield (The Quarry at Crystal Springs) also shot 70 (-1) in the Senior Division before playing three playoff holes where Tucker came out on top. Whitfield did not leave empty-handed, winning the Super Senior Division by four strokes. Devon Liberty (Westwood Country Club) sat at the top of the Assistants Division, and Emily Van Rie found herself ahead in the Ladies Division.
The field felt the heat and the hills at the picturesque Frankin County Country Club. McClintock was even keel throughout his round that started on 14. His lone non-par came on hole one, where he birdied the 440-yard par four. Potts began his day with a birdie on ten and ended the back nine one under with another birdie on 17 but wrote a bogey on the scorecard on 18. He proceeded to shoot even on the front with one birdie.
Tucker recorded birdies on holes nine, 13, and 14 while shooting one-under on the round. Whitfield registered four birdies on the day, coming on holes four, eight, 12, and 15. Liberty, who also finished third in the Regular Division, was even on the day and had five birdies.
With all Stroke Play events complete, the only points left to be awarded are in the Season Long Senior Match Play. The field for the Player’s Championship is set and will be announced later this week.
Thanks to Mike Parmentier and the Franklin Country Club staff for hosting the event.
