The Gateway PGA Section concluded its 2024 national qualifying slate with the National Car Rental Assistants Championship at Meadowbrook Country Club on Monday, August 19. The 36-hole event saw Kyle Szyhowski (Norwood Hills Country Club) secure his second Assistants Championship crown with a 70-71=141 (-3) score. David Mueller (Meadowbrook Country Club) also qualified with a two-round score of 74-71=145 (+1). The 48th National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, on November 14-17. Mueller, Chris Ferris (Algonquin Golf Club), Josh O’Hearn (Golf Headquarters), and Blaise Haxel (R&R Golf) tied for second overall.
Szyhowski, the lone player to finish both rounds under par, recorded an impressive seven birdies in his first round and was two strokes behind co-worker Will Postlethwaite (Norwood Hills Country Club), who shot a 68 (-4) to start the day. Skyhowski didn’t slow down as the wind picked up. He recorded five birdies and finished his second round one-under to clinch the title by four strokes.
