Kyle Szyhowski (Old Warson Country Club) took home his second consecutive section tournament title on Monday, August 22 at The Club at Old Hawthrone. After shooting a 74 (+2) on the first 18 of the 36 hole event, Szyhowski shaved 11 strokes off the second round to shoot a 63 (-9) for a total of 137 (-7).
Szyhowski started the second round on eight and proceeded to birdie his first three holes, compared to two pars and a birdie on the same holes earlier in the day. He started his push to pull away on 17 with a birdie. That birdie putt started a five hole stretch where he went a stroke under par on each. On his last four holes on the day Szyhowski went one-under as he turned in a 63 (-9) round and a tournament total of 137 (-7).
In 10 rounds of section play this season Szyhowski is leading the field in front nine average to par scoring at -1.6. Additionally he is second in the league in percentage of birdies or better (26.67%), scoring average to par (-0.4) and average on par-threes (3).
Brett Moomey, PGA (Algonquin Golf Club) and Sam Lee, PGA (Spencer T. Olin Community Golf Course) tied for second at 140 (-4). Moomey turned in cards with scores of 72 (E) and 68 (-4) while Lee’s scores were 73 (+1) and 67 (-5).
