The Gateway PGA Section hosted its Player Championship at Quincy Country Club on Monday, October 3. Brett Moomey, PGA (Algonquin GC) and Gideon Smith, PGA (Quincy CC) tied the regular division with a score of 71 (+1) but Smith won the playoff to take the title. Nash Haxel, PGA (The Quarry at Crystal Springs) took home the senior division with a 72 (+2) score while Bob Gaus, PGA (Family Golf & Learning Center) won the super senior division with a score of 74 (+4). In the Assistant’s division Jacob Seabaugh (Arena Golf & Range) and Jon Prange (The Fall GC) tied at 73 (+3). Rounding out the event was Ali Wells, PGA (Gateway Section) who hit 75 (+5) to take home the ladies title. Moomey and Smith headed to the first hole to start the playoff. After missing the fairway on their tee shots both hit pitch shots onto the green. Moomey left himself with an uphill putt for birdie while Smith was left for his birdie putt. Moomey went through his routine, planted his feet but failed to convert the putt. Smith rose to the occasion and sank his birdie putt for the win. Haxel started on the sixth tee and through his first nine holes he was three over. On holes 16, 18, and one found the bottom of the cup a stroke under par to move back to even. The course played tough and forced bogeys on three and five as Haxel finished two-over for the day. Gaus, who took the super senior title, started on five. Through his first five holes he was one-over thats to a birdie on nine. On the back nine of the course he sank three birdies but was able to hold the course back and finished with a score of 74 (+4). Seabaugh and Prange tied the assistants division with a score of 73 (+3). Seabaugh recorded two birdies and 11 pars on his scorecard while Prange sank one more birdie but one fewer par. Rounding out the event is Wells who shot 75 (+5). Starting on 15 she wrote three pars and a bogey as wrapped up the 18th hole. On the natural front nine Wells sank a birdie putt on six, her only birdie of the day, as she pared or better six of the nine holes. We would like to thank Quincy Country Club and Gideon Smith for hosting the Player’s Championship 1
