The official Match Play event at St. Clair Country Club kicked off on Monday, June 9th, and delivered an exciting three-day spectacle filled with intense competition. Sam Lee, PGA of Greenbriar Hills Country Club, emerged victorious, marking his second Match Play win since his last triumph in 2023. Runner-up honors went to Jeff Whitfield, PGA of The Quarry at Crystal Springs.
As the event unfolded, Lee advanced to the final four, where he faced Adam Betz, PGA. Demonstrating remarkable skill on the back nine, Lee won Holes 14 and 15, securing a 3 up advantage. Meanwhile, Whitfield battled against Matt Gindler, PGA, in a tough Match Play. Despite Gindler’s comeback to level the scores on Hole 15, Whitfield clinched victory by winning the subsequent two holes, propelling him into the final round.
In a thrilling final match, Whitfield took an early lead, going 1 up after Hole 3. However, Lee staged an impressive comeback by winning five of the last six holes on the front nine, which then secured his place as the champion on the back after Hole 14.
A heartfelt thank you to St. Clair Country Club for hosting such a fantastic Match Play event. Congratulations to Sam Lee, PGA, on his well-deserved win!
