The Gateway PGA Section hosted the 2023 Gateway PGA Professional Championship on Monday, August 7 and Tuesday August 8 at WingHaven Country Club. Brett Moomey (Algonquin GC) took home the title in an exciting playoff with Shane Blankenship (Osage National GC). Moomey and Blankenship are joined by Rod Sedorcek (Family Golf & Learning Center) and Ryan McClintock (Panther Creek CC) as qualifiers for the 56th (2024) PGA Professional Championship, presented by Club Car, Corebridge Financial and Rolex, at PGA Frisco’s Fields Ranch on April 28-May 1, 2024.
Moomey was consistent over the two-day event, shooting 71 (-1) both days to end the event two-under. On day one he birdied holes three, eight on the front and 13 on the back for scores of 37 and 37. He proceeded to shoot the same scores on the front and back the following day, but his three birdies came on 11, 13 and 15.
Blakenship took a different route to sit atop the leaderboard after 36 holes with a score of 142 (-2). He shot 35 on the front and 36 on the back on the opening day for a score of 71. In round two he recorded a 37 and 34 as he posted another 71.
Sedorcek shot 143 (-1) with round scores of 72 and 71 to claim the third qualifying spot. The fourth spot saw a playoff that went five holes where McClintock sank a short putt to secure the final bid.
