The Gateway PGA hosted its first two-player team event on Monday, April 7, on Whitmoor Country Club’s South Course. The Pro-Pro Shamble needed extra holes to determine the winner. The playoff featured the Quarry at Crystal Springs team, consisting of Nash Haxel and Curtis Brokenbrow, facing off against Quincy Country Club pros Gideon Smith and Emily Van Rie. Both teams shot 65 (-7) with bogey-free golf. Ultimately, Haxel ended the playoff with a par on Hole 2 to take the trophy.
The Quarry team started on Hole 13 and went 4 under through their first five holes. They added three more birdies on their last five holes to shoot 7 under. Smith and Van Rie, who started on Hole 1, went 3 under on the front nine, including a birdie on Hole 4, which was the most challenging hole of the day for the field. On Holes 12-16, they recorded four birdies on their way to the 65 (-7). Their most impressive stat of the day was recording birdies on four of the five par 3s.
Zane Roberts (Algonquin Country Club) won the TNT Shootout, Hole 2, on the 170-yard par 3. Roberts stuck his tee shot 1 foot and 4 inches from the cup and proceeded to birdie the hole.
