The Gateway Section hosted the 2023 Gateway Senior PGA Professional Championship presented by Cadillac on August 21-22 at Persimmon Woods Golf Club. The Championship came down to the final hole where Steve Hausmann (Tapawingo National Golf Club, Annbriar Golf Club) birdied 18 to take the title with a two-day score of 139 (-3). In addition to Hausmann, Rob Sedorcek (Family Golf & Learning Center), Bob Gaus (Family Golf & Learning Center) and Kevin Triefenbach (Tapawingo National Golf Club) qualified for the the 35th Senior PGA Professional Championship presented by Cadillac at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida on October 26-29, 2023.
Hausmann was consistent on his two days shooting 36 both days on the front and 34 then a 33 on the back. On day one he recorded birdies on six, 11 and 18 to go 70 (-1). The next day he birdied four times on the front and three times on the back.
Hausmann made a timely birdie on 17 to tie playing partner Sedorcek at two-under heading to hole 36. Neither player was able to reach the green on the second shot and chose to layup. On his third shot, Hausmann hit a perfect shot out of the fairway bunker 10 feet past the pin but spun back within three feet. On the green, Hausmann lined up his putter, settled his feet and knocked in the birdie putt to secure the victory.
