The Section returned to Player of the Year tournament play on Monday, July 15 at Algonquin Golf Club. The fifth point-event of the year featured a pair of playoffs, including the Regular Division. Chris Ferris (Algonquin GC) and Gideon Smith (Quincy CC) recorded 67 (-4) through 18 holes. Ferris defended his turf in the playoff and birdied the first hole to take the title. Smith did not leave empty-handed as he took home the Senior Division trophy. Bob Gaus (Family Golf) and Jeff Whitfield (The Quarry) shot 69 (-2) before playing a four-hole playoff where Gaus came out on top, winning the Super-Senior Division. Emily Van Rie (Quincy CC) won the women’s title, while Ferris sat atop the Assistant board.

Ferris, who started on hole three, sat one-over after seven holes and heated up as he made the turn. He birdied three of the first four holes on the back before parring 14-17 and knocking down a birdie putt on 18. With two holes to play, Ferris went birdie par to finish his round at 64 (-4).

Smith started on 13 and wrapped to the front nine sitting at one-under. His best stretch of the day came on holes five through 10 where he recorded four birdies and two pars before ending his round with a score of 64 (-4).

Reigning Super Senior Play of the Year, Gaus started his day on hole 11. Between hole 15 and six he carded three birdies and seven pars on his way to a 69 (-2) scorecard.

The Section would like to thank Brett Moomey, Mike Kegin, Todd Meye, John Mullin, Zane Roberts, Chris Ferris, and the rest of the Algonquin staff for hosting the event.
