Gaus Takes Three Divisions, Szyhowski, Van Rie Win Respective Divisions at Player’s Championship
Bob Gaus (Family Golf & Learning Center) etched out a clean sweep of the Regular, Senior, and Super Senior Divisions with a 69 (-3) at the Player’s Championship on Monday, October 14 at Sunset Hills Country Club. Kyle Szyhowski (Norwood Hills Country Club) and Emily Van Rie won the Assistant and Ladies Divisions.
The final Player of the Year points races were not short of theatrics. Gideon Smith (Quincy Country Club) entered the day 47.5 points behind Matt Gindler (Greenbriar Country Club), but Smith squeaked out a two-stroke victory to take the Player of the Year honors by 12.5 points.
Gaus secured his fifth Senior Player of the Year honors with his 69 (-3) at the Player’s Championship. He is now tied with Scott Bess and Lynn Rosely for most Senior Player of the Year titles in Section history.
Jeff Whitfield (The Quarry at Crystal Springs) took the Super Senior Player of the Year honors with an 84 (+2). Szyhowski tied for second with a 70 (-2) at the Player’s Championship and won Assistant Player of the Year by a wide margin. Emily Van Rie made history by taking first in every Ladies Division point event this year to take home Ladies Player of the Year honors.
Thank you to Jon DePriest, RC Martin, and the Sunset Hills staff for hosting the event.
