The Gateway PGA Section is 1 of 41 geographical sections of the PGA of America. The Gateway PGA Section exists to grow the game of golf and to serve the 330 PGA Professionals and Associates from Central and Eastern Missouri to Central and Southern Illinois. PGA REACH Gateway is the Gateway PGA’s 501(C)3 non-profit foundation and exists to positively impact lives through the community of golf. PGA REACH  is passionate about improving the lives of the community’s youth through Gateway PGA Junior Golf programming.

The Gateway PGA Junior Golf Program is one of the country’s largest junior golf programs, serving thousands of local juniors each year through its various endeavors. Gateway PGA Junior Programs include the following: Gateway PGA Junior Tour, Junior Development Tour, Drive, Chip & Putt, and PGA Jr. League.

 

Position: Junior Golf Operations Intern

Summer Internship (12-week internship)

May 19, 2025– August 8, 2025 (dates tentative) 

*Opportunity for work hours starting in the spring on some weekends and in the fall on weekends

 

Description:

The Gateway PGA Section and PGA REACH Gateway Foundation are looking for qualified applicants to learn from, observe, and assist the full-time staff as Junior Golf Operations Interns. During the internship, Junior Golf Operations Interns will assist in the execution of Gateway PGA Junior Tour Events and additional junior golf programming under the supervision of the GPGA Staff. 

The Gateway PGA Junior Golf Operations Internship is designed to prepare its participants for a career in the golf/sports industry and to help in their professional development. GPGA Interns are given the unique ability to learn critical leadership and management skills through assistance with tournament operations. GPGA Interns will also have opportunities to expand their professional network to include the leaders of the Gateway golf community. The GPGA internship program is held in high regard and very well respected by junior golfers, parents, golf professionals, and prospective employers. The following information should help you get a better understanding of the tasks, responsibilities, and rewards that come with the 2024 Gateway PGA Junior Golf Operations Internship.     

 

Work Schedule:

In order to best serve the Gateway PGA golf community through the industry’s peak season, the Gateway PGA full-time staff and intern team will be required to work long hours throughout the summer. The Junior Golf Intern Team will be responsible for assisting with the successful execution of 70+ junior events taking place Monday-Friday  throughout the summer season. A typical day could begin as early as 5:00 AM and could end as late as 8:00 PM. Some weeks may require overtime hours.  The interns will be required to travel throughout the Greater St. Louis and Metro/Southern Illinois regions. There is minimal to none weekend hours required. 

 

Experience & Skill Requirements:

  • Applicants must be a current college student (minimum of one year completed) or a recent graduate
  • Basic golf knowledge (Rules of Golf experience is a plus)
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills
  • Strong work ethic and desire to excel in the golf or sports industry or in event management/hospitality
  • Well organized, punctual, and maintaining a positive attitude 
  • Excellent professional communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate and remain flexible in a team environment
  • Desire to interact with junior golfers (ages 6-18) and their families
  • Willingness to work overtime and long hours in various weather conditions
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license required

Responsibilities:

  • Learn, observe, and assist Junior Golf Staff with the coordination and administration of all Gateway PGA Junior Tour and Junior Development Tour programming, which includes 70+ events
  • Assist with other Gateway PGA Junior Golf Events (i.e. Drive, Chip & Putt; PGA Jr. League)
  • Development Areas of Intern Responsibilities: Golf course and event set-up, inventory management, event and tournament operations, on-course rules officiating, monitoring pace of play, public speaking, starting/scoring of players, building relationships with Gateway Section PGA Professionals
  • Be familiar with and willing to learn Gateway PGA event procedures and the USGA Rules of Golf
  • Provide excellent customer service experiences to Gateway PGA junior golfers and their families
  • Travel to host course tournament sites throughout the St. Louis Metro Area as representatives of the Gateway PGA Section and PGA REACH Gateway Foundation

Compensation & Internship Benefits:

  • $14.00 + Overtime pay 
  • Mileage reimbursement for work related travel
  • Meals provided while at events
  • Uniform golf polos and hat will be provided for tournament days
  • Opportunities to shadow local PGA Professionals during select tournaments
  • School credit (if applicable)

Position: Junior Golf Communications Intern

Summer Internship

May 19, 2025– August 8, 2025 (dates tentative) 

Description:
The GPGA and PGA REACH Gateway are looking for a qualified applicant to learn from, observe, and assist the full-time staff as a Junior Golf Communications Intern. The internship will involve a variety of multimedia responsibilities. The Junior Golf Communications Intern will work under the supervision of the GPGA Junior Golf Manager and Director of Marketing & Communications, Thomas Pool.

The GPGA Internship program is designed to prepare its participants for a career in the golf/sports industry and to help in their professional development. The Junior Golf Communications Intern will have the unique opportunity to play a role in sharing the stories of the GPGA Professional, local junior golfers, and PGA REACH Gateway programming. GPGA Interns are given continuous opportunities to expand their professional network to include the leaders of the Gateway golf community. The GPGA internship program is highly regarded and respected by the golf community, golf professionals, and prospective employers. ➢ Desire to interact with Gateway PGA Professionals, junior golfers (ages 6-18), and their families.

Multimedia Responsibilities:
➢ Travel to host course tournament sites throughout the St. Louis Metro Area as a representative of the
GPGA Section and PGA REACH Gateway
➢ Capture photographs and videos at events
➢ Conduct and record pre and post-tournament interviews
➢ Use software such as Lightroom, Canva, and other relevant platforms to edit content
➢ Manage junior social media such as Instagram, Facebook
➢ Send weekly emails through Mailchimp
➢ *** Please note this position will occasionally be required to help with Tournament Operations

TOURNAMENT OPERATIONS ASSISTANT

Description:
The Gateway PGA is seeking (1) qualified applicants for a summer internship position in golf tournament operations during the summer of 2025. Successful applicants will be responsible for helping to conduct all day-to-day operations of the Section’s Professional Tournaments as well as Junior events and other programs in the section. In the summer season, the Section provides weekly golf tournaments throughout the St. Louis Bi-State metropolitan area. Section tournaments include Professional Stroke plays, Pro–Ams, Senior Championship, Section Championships, Match Play Championship, and Web.com Tour Qualifying School. The following information will provide you with a better understanding of everything the internship entails.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Tournament administrative work, including printing of pairings, scorecards, and scoreboards
● Tournament responsibilities such as golf course marking, selecting hole locations, equipment set-up, and
developing operational plans
● On-site responsibilities such as registration, tee set-up, starting, rules officiating, scoring, live scoring, and awards presentations
● Effectively communicate with PGA professionals and host professional staff.
● Tournament Media – Produce press releases and final round results for participants, host facility, and local
media.
● Manage company equipment inventory and maintenance
● Compile information to create effective email promotions for the Gateway PGA tournaments and events.
● In-office support of the Professional Tournament programming
● Provide on-site support as needed.
● Photography – Regular photography updates to Gatewaypga.org and social networking pages
● Facility Follow-Up – Thank you letters for each facility and contacts after each event.
● Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Competitions, including supporting all Gateway PGA
departments when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills
● Organized, punctual, energetic, and a self-starter
● Ability to work and communicate effectively in a team-based environment
● General computer knowledge (Microsoft Office)
● Basic understanding of the game of golf
● Rules of Golf knowledge a plus
● A college degree (or working towards a degree) required
● Automobile access with willingness and ability to travel within the St. Louis bi-state area required
● Interest in a career in golf or sports administration is preferred
● Must have existing insurance through school or parents
● Flexibility for work schedule including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
● Work outside in extreme weather and temperatures
● Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds i.e. tents, tables, stakes, and championship signage
● Safely operate a golf cart

COMPENSATION:
● Interns will be compensated $14.00 hr plus overtime.
● Gateway PGA Staff Uniform provided

● Travel throughout Gateway PGA’s service area is required. A valid driver’s license and clean driving record are
required.
