Betz & Emery Take Players Championship Titles

Lockhaven CC

Adam Betz of Meadowbrook CC played nearly a flawless 36 holes without a bogey to capture his 2nd consecutive Players Championship title at Lockhaven CC.  After winning in 2012 at Old Warson CC, Betz backed up his title firing back to back rounds of 3-under par 69, to finish at 6-under par which was good enough to edge JC Anderson by a single stroke.  Anderson, fresh off his trip overseas and play in the PGA Cup Matches came up just a bit shy finishing his second round at 2-under par 70, one stroke off Adam's pace.  Bob Gaus of Tower Tee GC, entered the final round as the leader, came in the afternoon at even par and finished tied for 3rd with Brian Fogt.  The finish was good enough to lock up the Regular Player of the Year Title for Gaus.  Shane Blankenship rounded out the top 5.

Larry Emery of Crab Orchard GC, had to play a couple extra holes to earn his top spot.  At the end of 18 holes, Larry and Bob Gaus were tied at 4-under par 68 and headed out to #17 for a sudden death playoff to determine the champ.  After tieing the first 2 playoff holes, the pair went to the tough 434 yard 10th hole where Emery made par to earn the title.  The rest of the top 5 in the Senior Division was JC Anderson (69), Brian Fogt (71), and Jeff Whitfield & Rob Sedorcek tied for 5th at 72.

Schmid is 2013 Gateway Section Champion

Panther Creek CC

Jeff Schmid of Perche Creek GC in Columbia, MO, picked up the biggest win in his Gateway PGA career in convincing fashion as he won the 2013 Michelob Ultra Section Championship at Panther Creek CC in Springfield, IL.  Schmid, who was elected into PGA Membership in May of 2012, won the Gateway Assistants Championship last year, now has his 2nd Major Title in Gateway PGA Section Events.   Jeff entered the final round in the 54-hole championship tied with Quincy CC Head Pro Gideon Smith at 144, even par.  The 3rd player in the final group was Bob Gaus, who had shot and 2nd round low of 68, to enter the final round one shot back at 1 over par.  At the end of the day, Schmid's round of 69 put him 3 shots clear of runners-up Gaus and St. Clair CC's Tom Sipula, both who finished at 216, even par.  The victory gives Jeff the final spot in the 2014 National Professional Championship next June in Myrtle Beach, SC.  Gideon Smith finished 4th while Mike Suhre, Brian Fogt, and Ty Zimmerman, all tied for 5th place.
