Gateway PGA Professional Jeff Whitfield is gearing up to compete in the Senior PGA Championship. The event takes place next week at the Southern Hills Championship Course. Jeff has competed in 4 major championships during his career as well as 12 PGA Professional National Championships. In a pre-tournament interview, Whitfield said, “I think that this event will feel more gratifying than the rest. In the past, I was so intense and nervous that I forgot to focus on what a privilege it was to be there. Knowing that this could be my last major Championship, I really want to enjoy the experience, because you can’t recreate that environment or the feel of competing in that arena.” After playing the course a week before the event, he is preparing for the fast and challenging greens. In his own words, Whitfield stated he is, “finding a rhythm and tempo to improve my short game but trusting what I’ve got”. The Gateway Section wishes him well as he competes against the strongest field in senior professional golf including 17 players who have won majors.
